Sainsbury’s to Use Naturally Refrigerated Vehicles

Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has become the world’s first company to use naturally refrigerated vehicles for food delivery services.

Made by Carrier Transicold – a company that specialises in natural refrigeration technology – the vehicle will the first of its kind and will use only carbon dioxide as the refrigerant.

Sainsbury’s operations support manager Gary King has said that the move is a big step towards achieving and sustaining the supermarket’s ambitious environmental goals.

Although CO2 is a global warming attributer, it will dramatically cut refrigerated vehicle pollution as most refrigerated vehicles produce multiple gases that include ammonia and propane.

Elsewhere, Dearman and Dawsonrentals have announced a partnership that will see the two companies demonstrate a ‘zero emission’ transport refrigeration technology commercially, using a liquid nitrogen engine to deliver an efficient and cost effective refrigeration.
